Native to Texas and many or the plains and mountain states. Often found growing in shallow soils, preferring disturbed sites in dry, sandy or gravelly soil with a neutral PH. Designation greenthread is most appropriate, it has thin, thread like leaves. The daisy like eight ray flowers are gold yellow with red to brown centers. Extremely drought tolerant due to taproot.
