Warm season annual grass that grows 2-4 feet tall and is considered a medium to tall millet. Best when planted in wetlands for wildlife such as Deer, Ducks, Quail, and Dove. Japanese millet is planted before the rainy season allowing the plant to sprout and grow before standing water. It can handle standing water if the plant is not completely submerged.
Dove planting should be made at 5-10 lbs. per acre. By spacing the seed/plants it will provide space for the birds to find the seed after it has been harvested or mowed.
It is also planted on low land or acreage which can be flooded for crawfish and like to feed on. Japanese Millet is a barnyard grass and when we are unable to obtain Japanese Millet we substitute Golden Millet which was developed in 2002 as a replacement for Japanese.
